This holiday season Shiba Scout Rescue decided to give back by saving some non-Shibas from the Denver Animal Shelter that were on the list to be euthanized. The director and some wonderful volunteers went down to visit the dogs and after 3 hours of meeting everyone, 11 dogs were pulled to safety! Due to the amount of dogs our rescue was able to pull and a few other dogs that were transferred out that day, the shelter was left with only 70 dogs at the shelter including those already available for adoption AND it freed up so much space that NO DOGS had to be euthanized for the next several days!
Some of the dogs are already available for adoption while others are still waiting to be spayed or neutered before they become available. However we need foster homes for several of the dogs so if you are interested in fostering anyone please go to our foster page for more information or email Beki at shibascout@yahoo.com.
Pictures of the dogs can be viewed on our Face Book page. We will load pictures soon!
Dancer is a pure bed neutered male Chihuahua that we pulled from the Denver Animal Shelter on Christmas Eve because he was going to be euthanized for being too scared and shy in the shelter. He is estimated to be around 5 years old. Dancer is really coming out of his shell and is a sweet boy. He is working on crate and potty training. He is quiet and well behaved in his crate. He is good with other calm dogs but takes him a few days to warm up to more excited dogs and puppies. Dancer is not good with cats and is too scared for children under 12. But he is an affectionate and sweet boy just the same.
Prancer is a little skinny male Chihuahua that came in surrendered by his owners to the Denver Animal Shelter. We pulled him because he was going to be euthanized for being too timid and fearful in the shelter. He is really blossoming in his foster home. He still needs to come to you but he is very food motivated. We are unsure of his age as his paperwork says he is 3 but he has several teeth that are very loose because they are so bad. But we will get him a dental in addition to being neutered before he is adopted out.
Prancer is good with other dogs and cats. Probably no kids for this guy. He is doing great in his crate and is learning potty training.
Prancer's adoption fee is $200.00 which covers his neuter, dental, microchipping, preliminary vaccinations and a professional training course.

Donner is a 3-6 year old male Black Lab mix. He is pretty shy at first with new people and not sure about this whole house life and trusting people thing that's going on in his foster home. Donner does great with other dogs, he hasn't figured out how to play with them yet but haven't heard a single growl, even when the director's St. Bernard tries to bounce around him. He's warming up to people but will hide when approached at first before he knows you. Within a few days though he starts wagging his tail when you take him out of his crate and then after about a week or so he starts approaching for affection. At this point he's been in his current foster home for 2 weeks and he practically jumps up on his foster mom (but we don't reward that, we just ignore that behavior).
Donner will eventually be a good running buddy but needs to lose a lot of weight first so walks would be a good starting place. He is learning to go into a crate on his own and once in he is a quiet angel and seems to be potty trained. Donner needs 6 foot fencing as he can get over shorter fencing, mostly picket style, not necessarily chain link, but it's also if left outside too long and he hangs out on the other side (probably just nervous being left outside by his people and wants to be back in with them and doesn't know how to accomplish that).
Donner's adoption fee of $200.00 includes his neuter, vaccinations, microchip and professional training course.
With a little old driver so lively and quick, I knew in a flash, it must be St. Nick! St. Nick is an 8 year old pure bred Alaskan Malamute. He would enjoy a quiet home that can help him lose some weight as he is overweight by about 15 pounds and it is causing issues with his joints, in fact he may have torn ACL's though getting the weight off and slow bits of exercise that can progress as he improves should help fix the problem without surgery. He is good with people and kids and cats. He is not good with other dogs. He is doing well being crated as long as he is fed in the crate. He is quiet in the crate so an apartment may actually work for the quiet guy. He is looking for a foster home that could maybe see if he could be left loose in the house unsupervised and then he will be looking for a home.
Ol' St. Nick's adoption fee will be $150. He is neutered, vaccinated and will be microchipped in the rescue's name.
